| I have windows7 x64. I have mp4 files with AC3 audio. WMP plays the video with no audio. I install the x64 and x86 versions of ffdshow and it still wont decode. I then install graphstudio to try to see what going on. In both the x64 and x86 it launches ffdshow and decodes the AC3 just fine. I just know that WMP and WMC doesn't even open ffdshow, nothing in the tray. Why doesn't it trigger the codec, WMC actually says it can't find the codec. I also tried AC3 filter, same thing grapherstudio show all is good, and WMP and WMC can't figure it out. |

| WMC does not use DirectShow anymore for such files. It now uses Media Foundation. MF can only forcefully be disabled. |

Thanks for the reply, I ended up going with switching to the .mkv container instead of using mp4. I then installed a Haali x64 and it all works great. Added benifit, I can now fastforward and rewind, this was always troublesome when streaming media before.
I was somewhat familiar with Directshow and the new media founations but I cannot begin to explian why this works. It might be that I'm bypasing MF by using an unsupported container?? |

| Correct. Matroska is not natively supported by Windows 7, so DirectShow will get used for playing it. |
